- Alentejo

The Alentejo wine region is one of the largest wine regions in Portugal, with 22 000 hectares, about 10% of the total vineyards in the country.
In the 1980s the Alentejo was modernized, in terms of production, with investments, new producers resulting in the Wine Region demarcation in 1988. The region is divided in eight sub-regions, with DOC wines: Reguengos, Borba, Vidigueira, Évora, Granja-Amareleja, Portalegre and Moura.
This region is very dry, hot and dominated by extensive plateaus. The many hours of sun and the high temperatures in the Summer allow the perfect grape maturation. The wine culture of the region dates back to roman presence, between 31 and 27 a.C.
The soils are strongly dominated by clay with shale, that together with very hot weather in summer, requires an intervention of the Man magic hand, in order to restore the balance and harmony with nature. These wines are an extraordinary example of that relationship between Man and Earth and of what it can give us. The wines are characterized by an intense concentration of color, fruity and vigorous aroma with great exuberance. This is the result of the marriage of Trincadeira, Syrah and Alicante Bouschet, and Alfrocheiro.
The terroir of North Alentejo allows more fruity and concentrated wines with a higher acidity. The vineyard was prepared for mechanical harvest and the winery was scaled above the current production, already thinking about the future expansion of vineyards. Wines are full of Color (Deep Red Colour) and full of fresh red fruits. The Monte da Cal red and white wines are available to consumers from the Colheita (Normal) to the Reserva (Top) as well as the single varietal wines made with Syrah and Alicante Bouschet.
