The origin of village of Santar goes back to the Middle Ages and the battles for Portuguese territory. Casa de Santar, then called Quinta do Casal Bom, was donated to a soldier that fought bravely beside D. Sancho II. The actual building, built in the XVIII Century, is surrounded by beautiful gardens, considered to be one of the most sumptuous manor houses of the region. The actual owners are guardians of a 400 year-old tradition, without without neglecting innovation and the search for quality.

In the balcony of the tasting room, you can taste wines of different ages. Next to the cellar the acclaimed vineyards are surrounded by pine trees and chestnut groves. The high-quality grape varieties produce the acclaimed white and red wines of Casa de Santar, that range from all market requirements, and also the Late Harvest, for dessert.

The grapes come from 100 ha of vineyard, of the best Dão varieties, and are vinified in century-old cellars, enlarged to receive modern vinfication equipment. It´s in this romantic scenery full of forefather memories that the producer creates the excellent Casa de Santar wines.

In 2007, Sociedade Agrícola de Santar, with its Casa de Santar wines, was elected Producer of the Year, by Revista de Vinhos (Portugal).
